Tip Vortex Cavitation and Induced Noise Characteristics of Hydrofoils

Tip vortex cavitation is one of the most classical themes in fluid mechanics. Although many experimental and theoretical studies have been performed, unsolved problems still remain. In particular, trailing vortices at tip hydrofoil directly affects hydrodynamic acoustic performance submerged objects such as marine propeller, rudder various foil-shaped appendages ship. this study, results from measurements two different three-dimensional hydrofoils are presented. Experiments carried out Chungnam National University-Cavitation Tunnel (CNU-CT). By high speed imaging technique, development process observed detail. Based on high-speed images, physical features cavity inception swirling motion flow examined. addition, induced noise characteristics examined by unsteady pressure measurements. The forces exerted were also measured using a dynamometer with view to verify scaling relation between number non-dimensional parameters namely, coefficient lift, CL Reynolds number, Re. further shed light cause intense cavitation.
